Feast Day: St. Philip Neri
Even as a young boy, Philip was so filled with charity and love that he was nicknamed “Philip the Good”. After working as a businessman, Philip abandoned his worldly interests and devoted himself to the the poor and sick. Ordained a priest in 1551, he founded the Congregation of the Oratory. He heard confessions for hours at a time, and could tell penitents their sins before they confessed.
[An interesting personal note: the first time I ever went abroad, I spent two weeks in Great Britain. I landed on a Sunday and after stowing my gear wandered around and stumbled across the Brompton Oratory, just in time for Mass. God is SO good!)
