Yarn-along: a new year and a few finished objects …

… or mostly anyway!

Welcome to 2012! How exciting that we’ve crossed another year and I’m still loving knitting, talking about knitting and reading about knitting.

Yarn-along -- January 4, 2012

This week’s yarn-along (see below for an overview of why I do this every week), is filled with a few knitted items I finished since the last yarn-along in 2011. On the finished side of the equation:

  1. scarf for Kit knit with KnitCol (in #52)
  2. socks for me knit with Berroco Sox
  3. a pair of fingerless mitts for Hambone knit with Cobblestone (in Mainstreet) — a washable 100% merino

On the unfinished, but almost, side of the equation, I’ve got two projects going. One is another pair of fingerless mitts for dh in “Boylston Street” Cobbleston and a tam I’m designing which I’m doing in Encore DK to prove that just because it has acrylic in it, doesn’t mean it can’t make a lovely design (and with hats around here, it’s good to have them machine washable). The fingerless mitts and scarf will be in the recipient’s stockings as we “do” stockings on the Feast of the Epiphany, spreading the Christmas holidays until at least that point.

On the reading table, I’ve still working thru the Knitter’s Life List (one of those I read in snippets as I don’t want to finish it too soon … such wonderful information about knitting) and The Pope and the CEO (another fabulous read, but I have to finish that as I owe a review of it). I’ve also started, at the request of my almost 13-yo-son, the last of the Ranger’s Apprentice series: The Emperor of Nihon-Ja. We’ve read this series together and he’s been trying to get me to read it since it came out in April(!) … I’m so glad he finally got me reading it … it’s a great book and a great end to the 10-book series.

So, what’s on your needles and on your book table? Want to come play with us over at Ginny’s?

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~ Ginny at small things
