Teaching: come on out and knit with me …

I’ll be teaching and talking about knitting over the next few months … come on out and knit with me …

Dog House Yarns classes – 708 Sunset Lane, Culpeper, VA 22701, 540-825-3585. All classes require pre-registration and run from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.:

  • Saturday, March 3 — Knitter’s First Aid: What Do I Do Now? — The doctor is in and will answer your questions of just how to fix that stitch, shorten the garment, and substituting fiber to make your knitting sing.
  • Saturday, March 10 — Understanding and Using Knitting Charts — “A picture is truly worth a thousand words” especially if it’s an intricate lace-knitting pattern or multi-color knitted garment! We’ll talk about how (and more importantly, why) to chart your knitting. We’ll chart specific knit-purl, colorwork and lace stitches to give you hand-on practice. Students will receive a resource list including “standard” symbology listings.
  • Saturday, March 17 — The Perfect Finish — Learn the best techniques for finishing your hand-knits: blocking, seaming, embellishments, etc.
  • Saturdays, March 24, 31 and April 7 — Rib Tickler Hoodie (the worsted version)– This popular design is currently only available in bulky weight yarn. For this class, I’ll be converting the original into a worsted-weight version. Come be the first to make the lighter version of this well-loved design (pattern is included with the cost of the class).
  • Saturday, May 12 — Making Kaleidoscopes with Yarn (charting, designing and knitting a tam) — Geometric color-work is easily achieved with the classic tam design. In this class we’ll learn the best ways to create, design and start a classic tam in your choice of colors.
