Yarn-along: of slinky tops and and summer reading
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~ Ginny at small things

simple, slinky, blingy kind of top-down T
I’ve started on a top-down, raglan-cap-sleeved top in Feza’s Jewel. This is a “corded yarn” with a bit of stellina worked in to add a bit of bling. I’ve done a wide-neck and some shaping in the front and back (double-decrease darts) to give it a bit of style. The hem will be a lace-work edging to finish off. The yarn is a warm cream so I’m thinking it will prove quite useful for next fall/winter holiday-dressing.
I’ve finished my Agatha Christie reading binge (altho I’m still enjoying knitting to David Suchet’s Poirot and the wonderful Miss Marples … good thing we have the collection). Christie is proving to be excellent for knitting and viewing at the same time … especially on a simple, all-stockinette top like the Jewel. I’ve started a collection of fun, innocuous mysteries by M. Louisa Locke. These mysteries are set in Victorian San Francisco and describe the San Francisco that my grandfather was born into. They’re fun reads with just enough background info to make them very interesting for me, a San Franciscan born-and-bred, who can picture some of the things she mentions (as they survived the 1906 earthquake). Really fun to read.
To end this yarn-along, I’ll share with you some pictures of my brother’s graduation this past weekend; he earned a PhD in Engineering from George Washington University and we were able to go up to DC …. only two of his 10 kids were able to come out (the oldest, Sarah, is holding the first grandchild … and is expecting her second in July) … but I was also able to see two of my brothers who live in NoVA (and I NEVER see) and my SILs!

GWU Graduation – May 18, 2014 on the National Mall …. otherwise known as “big brother gets his PhD”

Congrats to your brother! Great accomplishment. Your sweater is quite pretty. Beautiful yarn.
