Yarn-along: another cardi and summer reading begins
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. On my reading table: pleasure reading (and for review) the 3rd book of the JohnPaul2High series, Summer of My Dissent … these are well-written tales of a handful of kids in a very small Catholic high school trying to do the good and avoid the evil. I’ve read the first two and am so-far enjoying the third. I’m about half-way through a wonderful book by British author, Stratford Caldecott, The Power of the Ring: the spiritual vision behind the Lord of the Rings. … excellent book (and highly readable) about Tolkien’s spirituality and how it permeates his writing. I’m reading this in preparation for an Advent unit I’m writing using The Hobbit as the “spine” for our 2012 Advent journey (and to coincide with the movie’s release in December). Our first summer read-aloud is proving a good pick: Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is so good (and so much richer than the animated movie!).
As you can see, I’ve started another knitted cardi … this one in a bright red DK: Jeannee DK from Plymouth Yarn, a blend of 51%cotton/49%acrylic, which knits up beautifully! I’m enjoying designing this top-down, lace-yoked cardi which will be my June design for The Brigid Collection. For those who remember my Kudo top for Kit … I finished that but didn’t like the way it turned out so it will reincarnate as my NEXT knitting adventure.
So, what’s on your needles and reading table? Won’t you come play with us …
