~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Yarn-along: September 19, 2012

Two weeks since I’ve done a yarn-along and boy do I have a lot of knitting to show for it (added to the time was the fact that we spent three days down in Colonial Williamsburg and I had all that time while the kids played at Great Wolf Lodge to indulge my fiber fanaticism!):

  1. the blanket from another angle ….

finished dh’s blanket … Ciarnan’s Cover … and gave it to him early so he could enjoy a virtual hug from us while we were off history-tripping down in Williamsburg. He LOVES it and I do think it came out nicely!
  2. Lace Sampler Scarf (in pure cashmere)

I also finished the Lace Sampler Scarf (will write it up and post soon) which is a great foray into lace knitting (uses five traditional lace designs) while showing the properties of pure cashmere to perfection.
  3. Fiona’s Fingerless Mitts

I finished a pair of fingerless mitts with a fun, traveling-stitch pattern on them (and k2p2 ribbed palms) as well as an Aran-knit baby hat.

    Aran baby-hat

The baby hat came out so cute, I decided to make a matching baby blanket to go with it (that would be the big pile of knitting you see in the top picture!). The baby blanket is just about done … knitting from the center out makes for a very cool, square, mitered-cable look to the overall. Can’t wait to show you the entire picture! ETA: Barra’s Blanket and Cap is now available on Ravelry and Craftsy!

Lest you think we’re so busy knitting and traveling, that I’ve forgotten about reading …. HAH! I have been reading The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom which the kids are really enjoying; it turns fairy tales on their ear but in a good, funny way. The Princes Charming are quite well written and the story is a fun read. Me? I just got some knitting books in (mostly used copies of the classic Barbara Walker Stitch Dictionaries (book 1, book 2 … for some reason, this one has more patterns that I actually use than the others (!), book 3 and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0942018206?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0942018206&linkCode=xm2&tag=stathanablog-20) … which EVERY knitter should have on their reference shelves) and one that came yesterday …. Knitted Socks East and West which is a book packed with THIRTY(!) sock patterns using Japanese stitch patterns. The author’s overview of working Japanese stitch patterns (which are a glorious twist on traditional knitting stitches) makes this a useful book for anyone wanting to expand their stitch-patterns (whether you knit socks or not). Excellent!

So what are you knitting and reading? Won’t you come along and play with us ….
