Fun reading this week: Catholic Family Fun by Sarah Reinhard is one of the best I’ve seen on having fun with your family; I’ll post a review later but I did want to say what fun this was to read! Way to go Sarah. I’ve also started Catholic Philosopher Chick Makes Her Debut by Rebecca Weiss and Regina Doman — a fictional account of one 20-something attempt to study philosophy and find the perfect guy… pulls you right into the story while teaching a bit of Aquinas! Love it. For technical reading, I’m reading the latest edition of iPad, the Missing Manual which is really getting me psyched for getting one of these “portable geniuses” and using it to its fullest capacity (and NOT to watch videos or play Angry Birds … as my kids want).

And the family read-aloud, Horten’s Miraculous Mechanisms, is as good as I was hoping — lots of action, funny bits and clever puzzles scattered throughout this account of a lonely boy who is “right sort” to find out what happened to his Great Uncle!

Now … on to the knitting!

I finished My Wild Irish Rose lace poncho, my May design for The Brigid Collection. It came out lovely in the cashmere … but would look equally as sophisticated and elegant in any natural-fiber light fingering weight yarn. I just might have to make another in a cotton!

I’ve also started the yoke on yet another Rib Tickler, the worsted version. So far I’ve made this as a hoodie, as a crew neck, and this one (for Knit Picks’ IDP) will have yet another neck treatment. It’s a fun, versatile design and I’m lovin’ how the Knit Picks Comfy Worsted is working up; I’m using “Fairy Tale” which is a lovely red-purple. I taught this design as a three-day class out at Dog House and one student turned it into a cardigan (by steeking) and another put in a knit-purl textured pattern in the lower portion of the sweater and did a simple rolled-collar. Fun!
