Not All Those Who Wander … a knitting traveler’s backpack

So I haven’t posted a design in a while … but you’re not going to mind the wait when you see this one!

Here’s the backstory: dh and I are celebrating 20 years (!) in March and have decided that for this momentous occasion, we will head to our favorite place: the UK. We will do a walking pilgrimage of sites in England and Scotland … spending two weeks across the pond and reveling in all things British.

But two weeks without knitting????? How could this be done?

I quickly realized that a knitting bag would allow me to knit and walk (or train) at the same time! Genius, yes? I then realized that a KNITTED knitting bag would be cool … and then I thought about having the bag on my back … with yarn and needles securely tucked in there but the project able to be knit while walking.

An apt quote from JRR Tolkien (who was writing about Aragorn at the time) seemed too perfect: “Not all those who wander are lost”

And so was born the “Not All Those Who Wander … A Knitting Traveler’s Backpack” was born.

Knit in worsted weight wool … Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherds Wool Worsted … on size #5 needles (to give a firm fabric) and then lightly felted … this backpack is perfect. At 16″ long x 10.5″ across (or 21″ around), the backpack holds a mid-sized project quite nicely. Further, I put eyelet holes hidden in the bottom border panel (two as I probably would never try to walk and knit with more than 2 colors!) and I am good to go.

Not All Those is available on Ravelry and Craftsy for immediate download.

My thought is to create a whole series of Anniversary Pilgrimage designs before, during and after our trip … let’s see what creative items I can develop! Check back often and see what’s come off the needles!
