Where I’ll be over the next couple of months:

A new class-listing with descriptions is available and they’ll keep registrations open until right before the 24th, so if you haven’t registered yet, go right ahead. Here’s what I’ll be teaching:

  1. Saturday, 24th — 1:00-4:00pm — Dream It, Design It, Knit It — a 3-hour discussion of how to get those ideas out of your head and onto your needles!
  2. Sunday, 25th — 9:00-12:00 noon — Fiber: It’s Not Just for Breakfast Anymore — we’ll talk about the different fibers, their characteristics, why some are blended with others, and which ones will work best for your project in this 3-hour session
  3. Sunday, 25th — 1:00-4:00pm — Tips, Tricks and Techniques — bring all your questions or concerns about your own knitting or just sit and knit while I give you a plethora of ideas for making your knitting better, quicker, neater and generally have more fun creating with fiber

Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier

The Fall Fiber Festival at Montpelier, VA is always a fun show. Open on Saturday, Oct 1 from 10-5p.m. and then again on Sunday, Oct 2 from 10-4p.m., this fiber festival and sheep dog trials is great for the whole family. There are crafts just for the kids, workshops for adults and lots of wonderful vendors who sell items of interest to fiber folks — hand-spun yarns, looms, tools of the trade, spinning wheels, pottery, jewelry and anything else you can think of that helps us get our knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning, rug-hooking and other fiber arts done.

I’ll be there all day on Sunday, October 2nd hanging out with Jane of Spring Gate Farm with her gorgeous cashmere. I’ll be available to answer questions about knitting with cashmere, showing techniques on how best to use this luxury fiber, and generally talking about knitting and designing.

Getting Cozy with Cashmere at SpringGate Farm, Virginia

This first annual knitters’ workshop should be a blast. I’ll be designing a pattern for creating a beaded necklace and bracelet set for the attendees on Friday night. The class cost includes all the materials — yarn, beads and pattern — for creating this wearable art. And we’ll spend Friday evening working through the design, while discussing tips and techniques for beaded knitting.

Saturday morning we’ll have a walking tour of Spring Gate Farm where Jane McKinney raises champion cashmere goats, free-range chickens (and their eggs), pampered pigs and grows fruits and vegetables and flowers for sale at local farmers’ markets. After a mid-morning snack, we’ll talk about charting your stitch patterns — why a picture really is worth a thousand words. We’ve scheduled a 90minute break for a lovely luncheon and time to sit and knit the gorgeous foothills of the Blue Ridge. The afternoon will include a talk on tips/techniques for working with this luxury fiber as well as an overview of how this gorgeous fluff goes from keeping the goats warm to the skeins ready to knit.

Come on out and get “cozy with cashmere“!
