Yarn-along: multiple projects … multiple reads
~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~ Ginny at small things
Good morning! It’s Spy Wednesday … one more day of homeschooling and then we’re off for Easter Break (and a major home-building renovation and other household things) … so I’m knitting lots to make room in the schedule.
Fellow knitters will often debate the good, the bad and the ugly about multiple projects. Years back, I used to be adamant that I could only have one project going at a time. I have seriously lightened up on that particular dictum as you can see in the photo above! Right now I have three projects going at once after having just finished a 72-inch diameter circle blanket/shawl (Colleen’s Cover, big sister to Ciarnan’s Cover):
- Rib Tickler — yet another version of my popular Rib Tickler design; this one is for a class I’m teaching out at Dog House. I’m using Shepherd’s Wool, a gorgeous worsted-weight wool that knits up marvelously.
- Slice of Summer shawlette in Wolle’s Yarn Creations cotton — this one transitions from pinks to greens. I’m designing a half-circle shawlette with lots of fun lace patterns.
- This is a shawlette that I’m working up in Poems Sock (75% superwash and 25% nylon). This pattern will be in the goodie bag for all participants at Dog House Yarn’s Spring Knitting Workshop … after the workshop, the pattern will go live for purchase on Ravelry and Craftsy.
So, the answer to the question — do you have more than one project going — is a resounding YES!
On the reading front, I’m just as multi-tasking as with my reading. I’ve got a few reads going at one time:
- I’m just about done with the murder mystery, A Matter of Trust. It is excellent!
- I’ve started delving into the world of knitted jewelry … especially since I’ll be teaching a bead-knitting class at the Knitting Workshop and have discovered the very cool-ness of Viking Knitting (which isn’t really knitting, more braiding with metal that looks like knitting. More on that in a week or two). Betsy Beads by Betsy Hershberg is an EXCELLENT resource for bead-knitting, so I’m poring over that one. Another great book, that I’ve used before is Knit One, Bead Too — another excellent resource by Judith Durant.
- A brand-new book, that just came in yesterday is Knitting Pattern Essentials: Adapting and Drafting Knitting Patterns for Great Knitwear by Sally Melville. This is a text-dense book about measuring, drafting, designing and other great tips/techniques on creating unique hand-knits. I’ve started poring thru this one … always looking for ways to make my designs better, more accessible to all. Melville does a great job in here!
- And of course, our wonderful read-aloud, The Brotherband Chronicles: The Outcasts, which the kids and I are really enjoying. Flanagan has such a great story-teller style filled with humor, interesting plot-twists and great characterizations. Love it!
So what’s on your needles and reading table this lovely Spring morning? Won’t you come play at Ginny’s
