~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Yarn-along June 15, 2011

This week’s yarn-along is a salute to the joys of being a professional hand-knits designer. I can’t show you the project in that lovely Wisteria wool I’m working on — when you design a pattern for publication, often the publishers want to keep it all “underwraps” until publication. I can say that I’m progressing nicely — altho, I did hit one snag: after a day of WWKIP, I found that I casted on 4 fewer stitches than I needed and had to rip all the way back! OUCH!. But, no worries, I’m catching back up and still have lots of time before the deadline.

I can show you, however, my project I’m working on for Spring Gate Farm — the champion cashmere produces for whom I am the exclusive designer. The owner wants me to generate colorwheels of her fibers … so she brought me a skein of each color she currently carries. I’m excited to get working on that today! The cool thing is that now I have cashmere to play with … in many colors … and time this summer to design some gorgeous items!

Cool, huh?

On the reading table: I finished The Seraph Seal the other day (and another, fluffier fiction book — The Inconvenient Marriage of Charlotte Beck) so I’m moving on to Sweater Design in Plain English 2nd Edition (I’m going to post a comparison with the 1st edition for those who may want to know how the new book could have more than 100 pages added!). I’m also working through various other books, books I’m using for planning for next school year (including a very cool book recommended by a high school lit teacher: How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas Foster).

For our read-aloud, we’ve started a fun puzzle-in-the-story book called Walls Within Walls by Maureen Sherry about three children who move from Brooklyn to a fancy penthouse apartment in Manhattan that has a mystery attached to it. I love this kind of story … my kids love this kind of story …. we’re really enjoying this book so far.

What’s on your needles and your reading table … won’t you come play with us as we share our yarn-alongs on Ginny’s site?
