~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Yarn-along: November 13, 2013

Yarn-along: November 13, 2013

GOOD MORNING … it’s 32 here at 0645, and only supposed to get up to 43 (altho it will be clear) … good thing I knit, huh?

Today I have just a short yarn-along as it’s been quite busy round these parts: broken appliances (new dishwasher has arrived, now just waiting for it to be INSTALLED), iffy vehicles (stabilizer bar seems to be going out on the van), 9th grader made the basketball team at school, 8th grader trying to decide whether to go to high school next year, 10yo (who has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks) is sure that he should really be 16 and GOING to the high school … and just all kinds of other things occurring that are keeping me hopping.

But, not to worry, I’m still able to knit. I am just about done with a capelet I started yesterday — done in Swedish Yarn’s Duo (a bulky acrylic that feels like wool, comes in stunning colors … this one is fuschia, deep red, purple, blue … gorgeous!) this goes quickly especially since I’m knitting in the round. I have a bit of cable work on the front just to keep the knitting interesting. I also finished the Sequined Spectacular Shrug I mentioned last week and it came out so nicely. The sequins don’t show up in the photo, but they are there — now to get dh to take me somewhere I can wear this beauty!

On my reading table, we’re still reading The Castle in the Attic … just about done and it has gotten way better (the kid is not such a brat once you get about half-way thru the book) … I need to find a copy of the sequel, The Battle for the Castle.

For my fun reading, I just got the brand-new Elizabeth Lovick book, The Magic of Shetland Lace Knitting. I’m loving this book — great knitting history, clear stitch patterns with charts and words, lots of great design ideas filling my head … a PERFECT book for me! I am also thoroughly entranced by The Ultimate Mittens book … so much so that I just ordered it to add to my knitting-book library. I love how Hansen delves into the knitting traditions throughout the world and replicates them in knitting … she even has some Polish basket-weaving mittens in there. I’m thinking I really need to try and make some thrummed mittens!

So … what are you reading and knitting … wanna come play?
