Yarn-along: February 1, 2012
Good morning and happy feast of St. Brigid (my patron saint for this year). Also a BIG happy birthday to my favorite sister, Anne — God bless you, dear!
So another week has come and gone and we’re already starting February! My knitting work (which is REALLY play, just don’t tell anyone) has been doing pretty well this past week: a submission for a collaborative book got accepted (out of over 150 submission, the editor chose 36 and mine was one of them!), I posted a new design this week on Ravelry (Manawatu Sunset) and spent much of my week adding my designs to Craftsy.com. Have you visited Craftsy yet? Craftsy is “a community of people who love to make things – learning from, inspiring and helping one another” and has online classes, workshops, and soon, patterns. Sometime in early February Craftsy will go live with pattern sales featuring indie designers like me. I have already loaded a couple of dozen and will see where to go from there. (BTW, if you would like to purchase designs thru Craftsy — where they specialize in all things crafty and not just the fiber arts — you can sign-up to be emailed as soon as the pattern library goes live.) Craftsy is a fun site to poke around and get inspired!
I was also able to make great headway in my Tofutsies project … I’m down to adding the edging (while binding off), so this should easily be done this week. My next project in the queue is my Brigid Collection design for February … I’ll be using hand-dyed Blue Ridge Yarns’ worsted in lovely shades of red … stay tuned.
On the reading front … we are almost done with The Billionaire’s Curse, an EXCELLENT read-aloud with humor, action, and a bit of a mystery. I’ve got the sequel, The Emerald Casket, in the wings so we can go right into it.
For me, I’ve just started Cardinal Wuerl’s book, Seek First the Kingdom: Challenging the Culture by Living Our Faith. He is such an inspirational leader here in our Nation’s capital; did you hear him speak at the March for Life rally? We were blessed to meet him briefly at an ordination of a friend in June … what a gift he is to our Church. I’m looking forward to reading this one.
And for my knitting fix, I’ve got Deborah Newton’s Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters (not pictured, sorry) which is GREAT for those who have been knitting a while and still have little issues and challenges; I’m reading this one cover-to-cover to get every bit of advice from Newton I can get. Newton’s book does a great covering all the bases so that every knitted project is a masterpiece! I also just got a book I’m very keen on reading: The Crafter’s Guide to Taking Great Photographs by Heidi Adnum. This book comes highly recommended and brings craft photography down to a do-able level even without fancy light boxes, filters and dark-room equipment.
