~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~

Yarn-along - June 5, 2013

Yarn-along – June 5, 2013

Well, good morning — it’s a temperate 61 degrees right now (0700), forecasted to go up to 79-80 this afternoon. We had a cold front come thru the last few days so it’s not humid AND (most importantly) we’ve been able to have the house all opened up as none of us are fans of a/c running 24/7. It’s warm enough where we might get in some swimming this afternoon.

But on to the yarn-along …. as you can see from my knitting above, I’m in swatching mode: the one that is on the right is done in Trendsetter’s Ascot (100% superwash) and is a potential shawl (this colorway is absolutely gorgeous!). The one on the left, that is just started, is Crystal Palace’s Mochi Plus (merino/nylon blend) – this too, is a potential shawl, altho this would be a half-circle shawl which will show the self-striping beautifully. These swatches are going to up posted on the “Great Wall of Yarn”, at the National Needlework Association’s summer trade show in Columbus. I’ve been doing these swatches off-and-on for a long time and love it each time – a great chance to check out the latest and greatest yarns from the yarn makers. It pays to be a professional hand-knits designer! I was able to finish up bits and pieces this week also: my Blooming Liriope I showed last week and a shop model of the Rib Tickler.

On the book front, I’m reading the Literary Knits by Lohr … this book is similar to my book, Great Yarns for the Close-Knit Family, in that the original designs are inspired by fun books. My book used the “hook” of fantastic family read-alouds while Lohr’s book uses a mix of uber chick-lit and classics, so ranging from Tess of the D’Ubervilles to Moby Dick and Little House on the Prairies. Fun, huh?

I’ve also started my fun, mindless summer reading — Aunt Dimity and the Village Witch is a fun story with an interesting mystery … so perfect for reading at the Lake or pool! The Aunt Dimity series is just plain fun reading!

So what are you reading and knitting? Wanna come play over at Ginny’s ….
