~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~ Ginny at small things

Yarn-along: October 31, 2012

The end of October … and the end of performances of My Fair Lady … the end of autumn (there is a distinct wintery chill in the air after Hurricane Sandy) … the end of our read-aloud … and the end of a few knitting projects.

We are one chapter shy of finishing the well-written (and fun to read-aloud) Looking for the King. This has proven to be a great family read-aloud and positions us perfectly to start reading The Annotated Hobbit in anticipation of our Hobbit-Advent journey in December. The kids and I are looking forward to following Bilbo on his quest while we prepare for the Lord’s birth. Stay tuned for tales of our adventures!

On the knitting needles — I was able to finish off the Wall Street Scarf and washed/blocked it yesterday. I’m thinking Jane’s minister is really going to like the longer length (it’s 60″) and the pattern/color are masculine but light (altho cashmere is 8 times the warmth of wool … so it will be light but WARM). I’m also just about done with my Blue Ridge Shawl (which will be the November design for my Brigid’s Collection. It was becoming my Waterloo last night as I had to rip-back THREE times last night (and since there are 275 sts in each row, this is not a fun prospect). But, I just have two more sections and I’m looking forward to blocking it and seeing the stitch-pattern bloom. I have some socks I want to knit and other ideas running thru my head so I’m anxious to put this one to rest.

So what are you knitting and reading? Won’t you come play with us?

BTW, for those of you who know we were in the Hurricane Sandy path … we just got lots of rain, high winds that were harsh and blustery but high enough to pass OVER the house, lots of leaves down … but power and the whole time and no trees. We are very blessed!
