~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Yarn-along -- April 25, 2012

I’m almost done with that blob in the upper right corner — a design for publication so I can’t show you … but it will be stunning when it’s done. As soon as I CAN show you, believe me, I will. For now it remains an almost-fo’d blob.

The item on the left, however, I can show you. This is My Wild Irish Rose in progress. This is a design for The Brigid Collection, for May so I have to get cracking on it. The yarn is one which I’ve seen but didn’t think I’d like — it’s 100% cotton that gradually changes colors, creating a gradient-scale from dark-to-light or vice versa. These cottons, the creation of Elisabeth over at Wolle’s Yarn Creations, come in amazing colorways. I was sitting across from her at the Olde Liberty Fibre Faire a couple of weeks ago and finally succumbed. And I’m so glad I did. The colorway I chose, Magnolia, is one of her newest … it goes from pink to a dark forest green. Cool, huh? I’ve just CO and done about half the final … but I’m actually loving this yarn! It’s amazing to see the blends and colors slowly evolve.

In other knitting work, not shown, I’ve been starting some cashmere designs for men — a couple of gorgeous, classic-styled scarves for the men. BTW, you might want to keep the dates Oct 12-13,2012 open as we are in the planning stages for another “Getting Cozy with Cashmere” workshop down at Jane’s farm in Barboursville where I will teach you the joys and wonders of working with pure cashmere (and cashmere yarn is included in the cost of the workshop) … here’s a link to last year’s event .

On the reading table: thoroughly enjoying reading the biography of Pope Benedict XVI — Benedict of Bavaria. The man who wrote it, Brennan Pursell, has spent much time in Bavaria and done tons of research on the Holy Father. Pursell (who teaches at DeSales), writes with great love and affection for this humble man whom folks used to call “God’s Rotweiler”. The book is proving an excellent read! We’re also still reading-aloud from the Which Way to the Wild West, having just gotten thru the California Gold Rush and diary excerpts from those who (and who DIDN’T) strike it rich in the gold fields. We are all really enjoying this quirky history book.

What’s on your needles and reading table? Won’t you come play with us … ?
